ADDITIONAL RESOURCES

In addition to the ID-specific facilities, there are a number of other resources that our students can access.

Co-Works

Co-Works Studio is an interdisciplinary fabrication lab and cross-departmental nexus for the RISD community. Offering a unique selection of both advanced digital and traditional making technologies, Co-Works engages all departments and disciplines in experimentation, research, and collaboration outside of standard curriculum.

The facilities at Co-Works includes 3D printing, 3D scanning, a range of CNC equipment, laser cutting, vacuum forming, machine embroidery and knitting, industrial sewing, foam cutting, UV and large format printing, and more.

ID students can gain access to Co-Works by enrolling in a sponsored class or workshop.

For more information, visit the Co-Works website.

Brown Design Workshop

Tied to the Brown School of Engineering, the BDW is a space for people to turn their ideas into a physical reality and work to build a community of makers. Facilities include bandsaws, a chop saw, track saw, scroll saw, consumer-grade 3D Printers (Makerbot & Makergear), metal shears, mixed hand tools, laser cutter, soldering irons, multimeters, and more. The BDW also teaches woodworking, metalworking, laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC machining, electronics, and coding.

ID students can again access to the BDW by attending workshops for various machines. These workshops are held frequently throughout the school year.

For more information, visit the Brown Design Workshop website.

Media Resource Center

Students can rent audio/visual equipment (cameras, GoPros, lights, projectors, etc.) through the Media Resource Center.

Architecture Building (BEB)

Additional laser cutting and 3D printing equipment can be accessed through the Digital Fabrication Lab in the Architecture Building.
